One Month Birthday

I'm one month old today! Mom weighed me. I weigh 8 lbs 0.5 oz!
Mom took me to Lindsay Wildlife Museum. I saw the male Bald Eagle and I weigh more than he does now even though he looks bigger than me. Mom says it's because I don't have feathers or hollow bones because I'm a mammal. But she says that we both still don't have teeth.
I also saw a lot of people Mom works with. She works with a lot of nice people. I especially think everyone who said I was handsome was especially nice.

The Bald Eagle and Me

Today, my mom weighed me on the kitchen scale. She said I weigh about as much as the male Bald Eagle at the place she works, Lindsay Wildlife Museum. She even gave me a picture of me and her and the eagle. Only you can't see me very well in the picture.

First Visit to Pediatrician
Dr. Evans poked and prodded me a lot. I'm not sure I liked it very much but at least it was over quickly. My umbilical cord stump fell off this morning and the doctor said the granuloma that was left looked perfectly normal.
She also said that I only see in black and white and won't see color until I'm 4 months old. I don't know what color is, but it sounds exciting. I can't wait until I can see it.
After visiting the doctor, I went on my first trip to Safeway and Trader Joes. Mom and Dad had to buy groceries. They told me that I would find out about something called solid foods later.

Hello World.
Hello World.
I was born on Monday, 6/23/2008, and I came home that Friday, 6/27/2008. I weighed 5 pounds exactly, and I was 18 inches long.
My mom went to the hospital for her weekly checkup to see how I was doing. The doctor was concerned about the amount of amniotic fluid in Mom's womb, and sent Mom for testing. During the tests, Mom went into labor! After each contraction, my heart rate would drop pretty drastically, and the nurses had Mom roll to one side, then the other, hoping to get my heart rate back up. Each contraction was a real nail biter, and the hospital staff started talking seriously about a Caesarean section. Mom thought ahead, and had an epidural so that if she did need a C-section, she could be awake. That way, Dad could be in the operating room with us. Otherwise if they decided to have an emergency C-section, they'd have to knock Mom out. Since Dad's only job in the OR is to comfort Mom, he couldn't be there. Thanks to Mom, Dad took some neat pictures in the OR. We won't post those on the Internet, that kind of embarassing stuff sticks around forever.
It turns out that the reason my heart rate was dropping was that I had my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck three times.
The three of us took several days recovering in the hospital while family friends took care of my dog. Mom had done almost everything needed to welcome me home before I was born, even though Mom and Dad weren't expecting me till Friday.
Now that I'm home, my family spends most of their time feeding me, changing me, going for walks and taking naps. Because I'm so small, I'm hungry a lot. Mom and Dad supplement my diet with formula to make sure I gain weight. The first time I went for a car ride since coming home, we went to the hospital. As of a couple days ago, I weighed 5 pounds 9 ounces. Already, I look a lot different than when I was born.
